Recipe Index and Oatmeal

First off, I want to give a big thanks to Chandelle for giving me directions on how to create a recipe index and encouraging me to do so before I had so many recipes that it would be a hassle to create one. So thanks to the lovely Chandelle, I now have a recipe index! If anyone is ever interested in going straight to a particular recipe, now all you have to do is follow the link on the right hand side of the page!
For brunch today, Brett and I had coffee and oatmeal. Nothing special I know, but we came up with two new (only to us of course) variations.

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal (this was Brett's)
1/3 cup regular rolled oats
1 cup plain rice milk
1 small apple, peeled, washed and diced
2 tsp ground flax seeds
3 tbsp agave
2 tsbp brown sugar
a few dashes of cinnamon
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients except oats and bring to a boil. Simmer until apples begin to soften. Add oats, simmer for five minutes.

Remove from heat, let stand five minutes and enjoy!

It's purple!

Mixed Berry Oatmeal (this was mine)
1/3 cup regular rolled oats
2/3 cup plain soy milk
2 tsp ground flax seeds
2 tbsp agave
1 cup frozen mixed berries

Mix all ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.

Remove from heat and let stand for five minutes.

'Til next time.

I might have to utilize your recipe for Apple Cinnamon oatmeal so I can stop buying packets of the stuff. :)

BTW, thanks for the comment on my pets. Owen says thank you.

As a lover of purple foods, I am always super-excited to eat my oatmeal (or cereal) with berries that turn it purple.

Yay--a recipe index! I love it. Your recipes are all so delicious, and now I can sample even more of them!

Your oatmeal variations both look so pretty--very colorful!

Billy - My partner Brett is a self proclaimed hummingbird (sugar freak) and he said that this was a little sweet even for him, so you know it must have been sweet. I would recommend trying out the Sweet Cinnamon Raisin oatmeal I posted about a while back. You can find it in the recipe index.

Aw, no problem. I have to admit, I went back to you blog page to look at that cute kitten again too! :-)

Leng - It DOES kind of sound like apple pie, I had the berry so I don't know, I'll have to ask Brett if he thought it reminded him of it.

I do have lots of bean recipes, and all sorts of recipes I've created but haven't tried at this point.

Chocolate Covered - I thought it was pretty fun too.

Courtney - Thank you so much! That is so nice of you to say. I hope you enjoy anything you try! :-)

Romina - Yeah, I can't leave well enough alone, I always have to modify the hell out of any recipe that 'sounds good' (I'm not sure why I modify it so much if it sounded good to begin with) and I love to come up with my own ideas.

You should! Chandelle is right, she waited until she had over 200 recipes to create an index and it was a pain in the ass, mine didn't take very long.

ChickPea - Aw, not a problem I'm just so happy you were able to enjoy a delish day of vegan food!

We all get stuck in a rut with our oatmeal I think. I've been on the Sweet Cinnamon Raisin for the past few months, so I felt I needed to branch out.

Miss Blueberry - I'm with you on that one!

Happy Herbivore - Thanks! You should create one too, you have so many yummy recipes. I'd tackle it before you have so many it's out of control.

Hot quinoa cereal with blueberries? I'm heading to your blog to check it out as soon as I'm done responding to comments. :-) !

Lizzy - Hahaha! I can see how you would have thought that!

Stonielove - Thanks so much! I'm going to add you as well!

How cool about the recipe index!! Someone should put together a tutorial on it... maybe someday I'll add one to my blog (if I ever get around to posting recipes)
